Victoria, Rachel and I had a great time Saturday morning at the new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie. We are excitedly awaiting the next two Potter movies already in production. We munched on delicious popcorn and enjoyed ourselves.
Later in the day, we celebrated the birthday of my friend Carol at Long Horn Restaurant in Tucker. The food was yummy but I took home half of it to eat later - unfortunately the take home container slipped under the front seat so when I looked for it - no container. I thought I had left it at the restaurant but Jim discovered it Sunday after church - OOps.! Darn it I had to throw it away - all that wasted food.
Carol was happy to have 8 of her friends attend the gathering but her birthday didn't exactly turn out to be the day she had planned. She was in an auto accident which was unfortunately her fault but the good thing is that she wasn't hurt. The car is being evaluated today to see if they will total it. It was hit on the passenger side.
My sister, Dolores, sent me Bill O'Reilly's book Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity and it was a good, quick read. Jim has always told me of his days in Catholic school so I had to laugh when reading about Bill O'Reilly's days in school.
It has been awhile since I have read autism books on research but finally something worthwhile has come along. UNSTRANGE MINDS, REMAPPING THE WORLD OF AUTISM BY Roy Grinker. I may have mentioned previously when I saw the author speak at the CDC in February. I can recommended it highly to anyone interested in autism and in research. Roy Grinker is the father of a daughter with Autism and an anthropologist. He gives some really great history of the diagnosis of autism which is something we lived through. So many people he mentions in the book are researchers and parents I met during the early years following Denny's diagnosis so perhaps it is more meaningful to me. It sort of transported me back to another time and place in the early portion of the book. The research that is current was fascinating and enlightening on so many levels. Grinker research is funded by Autism Speaks. Grinker is a very down to earth speaker and writer. He has an interesting family history of his own to share.
I finally found some walking shoes that don't hurt my square feet - Nature Walk is the brand. Happiness is happy feet!
The weather today is low humidity and not to high temp - life is good and happy.!
Be kind, Sue

If you haven't read it already you'd also enjoy Autism's False Prophets by Dr Paul Offit.

Thanks for reminding me about that one. I do need to read it because I get lots of questions and that book would help me give informed answers, as well.
Sounds like you've been keeping busy again!! I have a friend that just got her second master's degree which has something to do with autism, so I sent her an e-mail suggesting the book that you blogged about. I'll let you know if she decides to read about it and has any comments!! :)
I'm glad you young folks are enjoying the Harry Potter experience. I read the first four books and really enjoyed them, I'm not sure I'm ready for the films. Maybe I'll watch the when they come on 'Turner Classic Movies'.
Autism is a big mystery to me, I don't think my brain can get a grip on that subject.
Love.
