Professor Randy Pausch

The AP story started this way.... Randy Pausch, A computer science professor whose "last lecture" about facing terminal cancer became an Internet sensation and a best selling book, died Friday. He was 47.
One of the many reasons I was drawn to Randy's story was the fact that he had incurable pancreatic cancer. The same cancer that both my mother and father had. Pausch was always a little embarrassed by all the attention and he summed it up when he said, "I am hardly unique." It was that very fact that made people want to hear his lecture and read the book, The Last Lecture. He said, "We don't beat the reaper by living longer, we beat the reaper by living well and living fully." His book was one of the most uplifting and funny books I have every read. I blogged on it once before but now I just felt it was important to share my feelings at this time. Because he wanted to do the lecture as a legacy for his 3 young children, he was able to bring a lot of joy to others.

I too saw the article on Randy's death. He lived much longer than expected and influenced so many lives... I've not read his book but I've seen his lecture online several times. He was an inspiring individual and will be missed by many.

A story like this makes you realize that there are still real, live heros among us. I am always impressed by the outstanding strength of so many supposedly average people. God bless us all...
